Reclaiming small spaces

Rebel without applause

Downloaded this web template from HTML5 UP as looking for a nice blogging template.

I'll add my own page generation or keep looking for something that works for me. I've been considering Eleventy, and may come back to that now I have a template. I tend to like to keep things as minimilistic as possible - avoid the temptation to use a full framework for something very simple.

(Edit: I have come back to try Eleventy. Not too bad so far).

The user overhead is often overlooked for the ease of the developer, which is the wrong way of doing things. It also brings in cost overheads when you need a server to generate pages.

That said, I'm not expecting much in the way of users, but I do think it's time to start looking at moving away from the centralised web presences of big 'social media' companies again.

Defaulting to freemium products, like Wix or Wordpress, also leads to your postings being conduits for adverts.

The web was built to be diverse and not centralised, and I've become lazy as a user.

Time to reclaim small spaces!
